I’m using HyperXTalk 0.9.15. The dictionary documents registerVoiceCommand, startListening, stopListening, etc., and says they were introduced in 1.1.0 using SFSpeechRecognizer. However, calling registerVoiceCommand immediately raises:
execution error (stop: target is not a group) (On MacOS Monterey or Tahoe)
Are these commands already expected to work in 0.9.15, or is the dictionary documenting features from a future release ?
I don’t see that in the dictionary. Where are you finding those commands?
That’s coming in 0.9.16 Not too certain why it’d be in the documentation for 0.9.15
I didn’t find them in a special place. I simply opened the HyperXTalk dictionary and searched for keywords like “voice”, “listen”, and “speech”.
That’s how I found commands such as startListening, stopListening, registerVoiceCommand, and isListening.
Thanks a lot, Emily, for your quick reply and for implementing this feature in the next release !
Yeah, it’s kind of neat. I have it working on macOS and just need to get Windows and Linux up and running.
Interesting. I don’t find it in the 0.9.16 dictionary either.
From my time at Apple I still have my “I helped Apple wreck a nice beach!” t-shirt.
Should be in the branch.
Still a mystery why it ended up in 0.9.15 though.
Well, he got a sneak peek at the feature ![]()
The speech recognition functions are present in the dictionary included with the 0.9.15 version distributed on GitHub. That’s the version I was using.
You’re right, though: if you download HyperXTalk from the official website, those functions are not present in the dictionary.
ahh, being a sneaky little boy and grabbing from the GitHub
heheh.. If you know what you’re doing, you can even grab the test version with the speech recognition feature in it (at least for macOS)
It wasn’t really intentional!
I was asking ChatGPT whether the open-source version of LiveCode had been ported to Apple Silicon. One link led to another, and before I knew it I had found the HyperXTalk forum and the GitHub repository. That’s how I ended up using the GitHub version!
I’ll resist the temptation to grab the test version and wait for the next HyperXTalk release.
I’m really looking forward to trying the speech recognition feature in a teleprompter project to help me sing songs in public. Now I just have to wait for HyperXTalk on iPad… unless I decide to get a MacBook first! ![]()
hahaha.. You can always grab the working copy off of GitHub, nothing wrong with that. Sadly, there won’t be a HyperXTalk for iPad unless Apple changes their policy on GPL software.
In that case, I’ll have no choice but to treat myself to a MacBook ! ![]()
Sounds like a nice treat!
