This will be cross-platform and will allow you to show the end-user there is a spelling error.

Good we have bool m_spell_check so I need not fear for my lean set-up 
Say Emily, as you are poking the field object currently - years ago there was a longer search in the LC team and LC community for a mysterious bug that made LC forget parts of selected text (or text then to be copied) when you let the mouse cruise to much during or after selecting, and people saw this error, but nobody could write a recipe. Have you ever heard about the issue? Anyone else maybe? If we think this is worth it I could go looking for the old reports and write us an issue then. Or someone goes looking in the LC bug tracker.

I haven’t heard of that issue, but if there are workable steps to reproduce it, I’ll take a looksie and attempt to fix it.
