Welcome to HyperXTalk! šŸ‘‹

Someone complained that my intro was too short, so I’ll try again.

I’m Emily-Elizabeth, but you can just call me Emily. I got started in xTalks with HyperCard, then SuperCard and then programming fell to the wayside when they both died. I then discovered CrossBasic and started to develop in that, it eventually got bought and became REALbasic and now Xojo. Along the way I came across MetaCard but it wasn’t cross-platform at that time. Eventually I found Runtime Revolution and started to use that. I ended up developing in Xojo for a while and came back to Livecode to discover it had become Livecode Create and was priced way too weirdly and they added a kill switch. At this point I found OpenXTalk and was happily using that, but there was no ARM Mac support (they have it now though) so I started HyperXTalk. No programming experience required  I use Claude.ai to get the work done and a small team of other people, who can actually program, are helping out.

I’m unemployed and live in Ontario, Canada. I have no pets and no children, but I do have a MacBook Pro that I care for deeply (hehehe). I’m here to make the best xTalk language out there and glad to have everyone along for the ride.

I am so happy and relieved to have found this project headed by you, Emily, and supported by many of my ā€œold friendsā€ from LiveCode. I am a retired Physicist (not a real programmer) and, like the rest of you, started with HyperCard etc. I use LiveCode (until it is murdered) and now HyperTalk as a hobby and build tools to support my interests in Cosmology, Astrophysics and everyday life tools. Thank you all for being here!

Welcome to the forums and I hope that HyperXTalk brings you the same enjoyment that we all got with HyperCard  If there is anything that we can do to help you with your projects, let us know.

Indeed. Glad to see you here - been a while. Welcome to the club and spread the word.

Hi everyone.

It’s not often that you get a personal and very friendly email from the developer right after filling in a survey. So I feel very welcome, even though I’ve only just discovered the project and can’t exactly call myself a developer.
As a teenager, I got to know and love HyperCard because it came with my first Mac. Then I spent many years using FileMaker and later looked into LiveCode, only to see both projects meet an even more undignified »end« than HyperCard.
But I’m not here to depress everyone, quite the opposite. I’m very pleased to have discovered this project and am happy to help wherever I can.

Best regards from Denmark

Hi Jan,

Glad to have you on board! We’re still in development but you should be able to get those old HyperCard vibes from this warm community. I remember all the XCMDs we used to share around high school, so hopefully you’ll feel comfortable sharing some stacks you’ve made (no pressure )

~Emily
